Kelly Utt-Grubb graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of Tennessee and a Master of Science degree in Interactive Communications from Quinnipiac University. Her diverse professional background includes retail management, research in a developmental psychology lab and a family naming consulting business called Name Counsel, through which her work has been featured in major media including the Los Angeles Times, PINK Magazine, and iParenting, as well as on NPR and numerous other radio shows across North America. She is known nationally as an insightful and creative naming expert. In addition to her work with family naming, Kelly helps name businesses and products through her brand marketing firm called The Creative Media People.

Kelly is also the Founder of Letterberry, an online collection of open letters, and Carolina Farmhouse, a handcrafted furniture company. Thanks to Kelly's creative and business development efforts during the company's first year in business, Carolina Farmhouse designs have been photographed with First Lady Michelle Obama, purchased by reality television stars and a Trump Tower resident, and were seen on the September 2011 season premiere of ABC's hit show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

She lives in North Carolina with her husband, Sam, and their 11 and 9-year-old sons, Andrew and Christopher.
